No Beat, You Can't Dance To It, But Amazingly Fast

Wow. Only 12 or so hours after this morning's Tribune-Review story hit the streets, somebody had already posted this one on YouTube. It has no music. It has no sound of any kind. The final bit of text fades out before most people will be able to read all of it. But it still gets an important point across.

He didn't duck any meeting. Yarone Zober was at the meeting and the head of the meeting was more than happy with that.

I'm not so sure, Matt. Reading between the lines of what Rev. Johnnie Monroe said in this morning's Trib article, I think he was none too pleased about things. He was probably cool with Zober filling in when it first happened, but now that he's learned the reason behind it he seems a bit less sanguine. I could be wrong. The rhetorical signals that he sends out are rather subtle. But as I described earlier today, he seems to be somewhat unhappy with the overall situation.

The racial dimension here is pretty complicated, but Luke did blow off a bunch of poor black people to go and spend his time with some rich white ones. Keep in mind that his council seat is now being filled by Darlene Harris, whom at least some members of the black community believe to be a bit of a racist due to the school closing ruckus which took place while she was on the school board. After seeing the district elect her last year, there is bound to be at least some question about the man who preceded her from that exact same district. Things like this reinforce an image that Luke defintely doesn't want to have, and probably doesn't deserve.

I'm not suggesting that he is racist, and I'm not saying that anyone would be right to suspect him of being racist. But rumors of racism are very hard to beat once they get some traction, and incidents like this one don't help.

I really haven't heard any rumors of Luke being racist and I work in District 9 with seniors who always vote.

Racist may indeed be too strong of a term. Luke is ignorant. I observed him speak in front of a crowd that was primarily African-American and he was painfully uncomfortable. Ignorance is when an individual doesn't have enough knowledge or experience to address complex issues (like race) in an intelligent or meaningful way. From the perspective of a frat boy like Luke, he need only appoint an African-American police chief to avoid criticism for the glaring lack of diversity in his administration. Ignorant, yes, although a view shared by too many I suspect. Jim

Admiral, you seem to be sending subtle rhetorical signals of your own. If I'm not mistaken, you were the first one to point out Rich White vs. Poor Black.

You're the first (I think?) to use the word "racist" in the context of this incident, and I believe the only one so far.

Your closing remark here that "rumors of racism are very hard to beat once they get some traction" sounds suggestive indeed, after the fashion of asking, "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

As the original youtuber, I would just like to say (for my own safety) that I did not create that.

I did not create the ad with the shoes in it for Peduto, either.

I just do raw footage type of stuff.
